After a time, the rubber portion of the windshield wiper will need replacement due to wear and deterioration. Replacement blades, commonly called 'refills', are easy to install. The rubber blades should be inspected periodically and not allowed to wear excessively as damage to the glass windshield may result. Begin by pivoting the arm away from the windshield glass. To remove the old rubber portion, pinch the tangs located on one end of the blade using your fingers, not pliers, to release the securing mechanism and slide the rubber off the arm while keeping the tangs pinched closed. Take the old rubber blade to an auto parts store, Mazda dealer, or service station to match it with a new refill. Pinch the tangs again and slide the new blade onto the arm, centering it before releasing the tangs. Finally, pivot the windshield arm back into position against the windshield glass.
