In order to change the hood latch, one should make a mark on its position to align the mounting bolts during installation. Unscrew the cable outer sleeve, press the locking tabs on the cable housing, disconnecting the cable end with it and the latch mechanism, later versions may be of a different design but the removal procedure remains similar. Later models have an electrical connector that should be disconnected and the latch removed. To install, follow the reversal procedure of the removal steps, be sure to have the latch set to a tight fit to the hood, with the bumpers compressed slightly. At the passenger compartment, find the release lever which is on the lower dash panel in older models and the kick panel in later ones. Detailed instructions on taking off the release handle are on the illustrations and include lifting the handle up and pushing tabs or unlocking an access cover on lever-type handles. Disconnect the cable end with the lever and the kick panel trim to reach the cable bracket. Now take a bit of thin wire or a piece of string and tie it to the end of the cable, then in the engine compartment, unplug the hood release cable of latch assembly and unclip all the retaining clips. Pull the cable forward until the wire or string becomes visible and then move it over to the new cable. To gain access, it may be required to remove battery tray and unbolt battery junction box. Installation of the new cable This cable should be pulled back through the firewall and make sure the grommet is in place. Install the new cable back into the hood release lever and then pull until the cable snaps into position in the grommet. Installation Reversing the steps of removal will complete the installation.
