1991 Mazda B2200 Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does a Shock Absorber Work in the Removal and Reassembly of a MacPherson-Type Strut Front Suspension on 1991 Mazda B2200?
A: MPV only has MacPherson-type strut at the front. In order to take off the strut, lift and secure the vehicle and loosen the wheel and tire assembly. The lower control arm should be supported using jack, the brake hose should be disconnected with the strut by removing clip, the strut-to-knuckle attaching bolts and nuts must also be removed. Removing any obstructing components that may require removal, remove the attaching nuts of the strut tower in the engine compartment and remove the strut assembly. In case of the need to disassemble the strut or to take off the coil spring, hold the strut assembly in a bench vise, take the rubber cap out of the upper mounting block and loosen the upper attaching nut without taking it off. The coil spring should be compressed with the appropriate spring compressor and then the upper nut attaching the coil spring should be detached and special care should be taken to release the tension on the coil spring. After the spring is not under tension anymore, loose the spring compressor and strip off the upper mounting block, upper spring seat, spring seat, coil spring, bump stopper and ring rubber out of the strut. Wipe the ring rubber with rubber grease and put it on the bump stopper and to the strut. Repeat these steps again compressing the coil spring using the spring compressor until the strut is fitted with the compressed spring, then the spring seat is then added. Make sure that the flat part of the strut rod is inserted in the upper spring seat, and fitted the upper mounting block and loosely screwed in the upper attaching nut. Install the spring compressor by removing the spring compressor, making sure that the spring is properly positioned in both spring seats, clamp the upper spring seat in the vise, and tighten the upper attaching nut to the recommended torque. Lastly, place the upper mounting block rubber cap.
