To install and take off shock absorbers, it is important to raise the rear-end of the vehicle using jackstands and take off the wheels. In case of pickups, unbolt both ends of the shock absorber and take it off and install the new shock absorber in the frame and tighten the mounting hardware to tight with each bolt tightened to 58 ft. lbs. On the MPV, it is best to disconnect shock absorbers beginning with the lower end then the upper end and remove them. Install the new shock absorber by installing the mounting hardware and tightening it, positioning the new shock absorber, and then lower the van and tightening the bolts to 76 ft. lbs. To the Navajos, lift the car and place jackstands beneath the axle or wheel so as to take the strain out of the shock absorber. Unscrew the lower retaining nut and bolt, swing the lower end, removing the retaining nut(s) of the upper mounting. Once the old shock absorber has been removed, place the new shock absorber in position and attach it with the mounting hardware with a 39-53 ft. lbs. lower retaining bol and 15-21 ft. lbs. upper retaining nuts.
