1996 Mazda MPV Cylinder Head Parts and Q&A
Q: What are the steps involved in the disassembly of a cylinder head on 1996 Mazda MPV?
A: Removal of the intake and exhaust valves and other associated parts is done during cylinder head disassembly, in which the rocker arm assemblies and camshaft(s) must be removed first. The parts should be labeled or stored separately in case of re-installation into the place they were initially installed. The valves are to be labeled and put away in small plastic bags before leaving the house. In order to take the first valve out, squeeze the springs with a valve spring compressor and extract the keepers using a needle-nose pliers or a magnet. Having loosened the compressor with care, remove the retainer, the spring, and spring seat, where necessary. In case of guide binding a valve, work the part around the stem and the keeper groove by pushing it back into the head and debruising it with a fine file or a whetstone. Do the same to all the valves, and have all parts of one valve in one place where they can be reinstalled. After removing all valves and parts in order to organize them, clean and thoroughly inspect the head, doing all the disassembly needed to the engine before beginning the cleaning and inspection of the cylinder head.
