2006 Mazda 6 Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and install rear shock absorbers on 2006 Mazda 6?
A: Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it securely on jack stands while blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling, then remove the wheel. Support the trailing arm with a floor jack and remove the upper control arm. Next, remove the lower shock mounting bolt. For 2008 and earlier models, remove the three bolts securing the upper shock mount to the body, while for 2009 and later models, remove the upper mounting bolt. Maneuver the shock out of the vehicle, and if new shocks are to be installed, swap the bracket to the top of the new shock. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. Caution is advised as new shock absorbers are gas-filled, compressed, and retained with a fiberglass strap; do not remove the strap until the shock is installed. Finally, raise the trailing arm with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height and tighten the mounting fasteners to the specified torque.
