2008 Mazda Tribute Mass Air Flow Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor on 2008 Mazda Tribute?
A: In the case of the Mass Airflow/Intake Air Temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor on the 1.5L, 1.6L, and 2013 and subsequent 2.0L four-cylinder engines, firstly, remove the cable off the negative battery terminal. Second, uninstall the air intake duct, screw the hose clamp loose and remove the duct and then disconnect the electrical connector to the MAF sensor. Unless it is required, the half of the air filter housing containing the MAF sensor can be removed. Thereafter, unscrew the four MAF sensor retaining nuts in order to decouple the MAF sensor to the air filter housing cover and then unscrew the MAF sensor. Installing is the opposite of uninstalling whereby, the MAF sensor should have nuts that are screwed in. After the battery is reconnected, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) needs to re-learn its idle and fuel trim strategy in order to achieve maximum driveability and performance. When 2.3L and 2.5L four-cylinder engines, 2009 and later V6 engines, it is noted that 2013 and later 2.5L engines have the MAF, as well as the MAP sensor. Start by removing the sensor wiring harness, complete the sensor removal by removing the two mounting screws and pulling the sensor out of the air duct and installation occurs in the same fashion.
