  How to replace the EVAP canister purge valve and Vapor Canister on Mazda 3?

  To replace an EVAP canister purge valve, start by removing the battery cover and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. After it, remove the cover of the upper engine by pulling it away from each side. Next, lift the cover off its central mounting posts. Separate the electrical connector from the canister purge valve and the EVAP line quick-connect. To remove the purge valve, first take off the purge valve and mounting bracket as an assembly. Next, press the lock tab then slide the purge valve off the mounting bracket. The EVAP canister is located under the vehicle in the spare tire well. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel. Raise the front of the vehicle. Securely support the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels. Take off the fasteners and shield of the canister protection. Detach the ABS connector at the rear wheels. Unfasten the rear caliper brake line from the bracket. Remove the lower mounting bolts of rear shock absorber. Using a floor jack, support the rear crossmember, then loosen the six rear crossmember nuts and lower the rear crossmember 5-1/2 inches. Remove the breather hose and electrical connector from the EVAP canister. Next, remove the three EVAP line quick-connect fittings. Take off the mounting fasteners which hold the canister in and remove it. Installation is the reverse of removal, and an alignment may be necessary afterwards. To access the EVAP system leak detect pump assembly, first remove the EVAP canister. Next, release the two locking tabs to remove the heat shield from the EVAP canister vent solenoid. Before removing the leak detect pump assembly, loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the fuel vapor hose from the leak detect pump. Installation is the reverse of removal.
