How to remove and replace the EGR valve on Mazda 3?

Take out the battery cover and unattach the cable on the negative battery terminal. Then lift the upper engine cover by lifting it by both ends and out of the mounting posts in the middle. Cooling system Drain the cooling system, and then take out ducts of air intake, and air filter housing. Unfit the electrical connector with the EGR valve, unclamp the coolant hose and loosen the upper radiator hose with the outlet passage of coolant. Attach the clamp and loosen the coolant hose on the EGR valve, remove the two EGR valve mounting bolts and remove the EGR valve. Disregard the EGR valve gasket and clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and the EGR valve. To install, undo the process of removal, making sure to install a new EGR valve gasket and screw the EGR valve mounting bolts. Lastly, replace the coolant system.

The essence of the Mazda 3 EGR Valve is to reduce adverse nitrogen oxide emissions by redirecting a controlled amount of spent exhaust back into the intake charge and cooling the combustion of said gases before they have a chance to form. The valve has a pint-sized hole that connects the exhaust manifold and intake tract, with the EGR Valve opening a spring-loaded pintle, admitting approximately five to fifteen percent of the exhaust stream into the incoming air, which reduces oxygen density and the high flame temperatures. This metering is advantageous in modern Mazda powerplants. The previous Mazda vehicles were based on the simple vacuum-actuated units which opened when the manifold pressure allowed it, and a thermal switch opened when the powertrain computer allowed it to turn the flow on and off again, whereas the later generations were electronically controlled and included a built-in back-pressure transducer, effectively letting the powertrain computer open and close the flow, whether using gasoline or diesel engines. The two styles achieve the same aim, but the latter style responds quicker, fine-tunes the flow in minute steps, and enables the car to achieve a higher standard without affecting the performance of the car at idle or maximum throttle in any noticeable way when the system remains closed.
