Those models fitted with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) also referred to as airbags, will have the airbag system being disabled before operating around any part to avoid incidental deployment, which would cause personal injury. Start by removing the cable of the negative end of the battery. To remove the upper column cover, a trim removal tool is required to detach the mounting clips, then can be separated into the two covers and the upper cover and the instrument cluster trim panel; on certain models, one may have to remove the instrument cluster trim panel first before taking off the upper column cover. Then, to take out the lower column cover, remove scuff plate, kick panel, and knee bolster. Then take off the bolts of the bottom of the steering column cover and detach the cover. Installation is the opposite of removal.
