How to remove and reinstall the steering knuckle and wheel hub components on Mazda 3?

To remove the cover of the wheel, loosen the driveaxle/hub nut but not remove it and then loosen the lug nuts of the wheel. Lift the vehicle and place it on jackstands to hold it in place and then take off the wheel and splash shields. The next step is to take off the brake caliper, without disconnecting the brake hose, caliper mounting bracket and caliper disc. Loose the knuckle on the strut body using a hammer, where necessary. To install, position the knuckle and hub assembly strut and at the same time insert the driveaxle into the hub push the strut-to-knuckle pinch bolt to the recommended torque. Attach the balljoint to the knuckle, and screw the pinch bolt/nut to the required torque. Also, screw the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle arm and screw the nut to the requested torque. Install the caliper by fitting the brake disc on the hub. Install the driveaxle/hub nut, screw it in, half-tight. Install lug nuts and wheel and lower the car, ensure the lug nuts are tightened to the required torque. Lastly is to tighten the driveaxle/hub nut to the required torque and put the wheel cover back on, not forgetting to make sure that the front-end alignment has been checked and adjusted accordingly.

The Mazda 3 Steering Knuckle is at the intersection of the steering and the front wheels of the compact car, as it allows the front wheels to pivot when turning the car and glide over bumps. It is cast in special, strong steel or aluminum, thus making the strut or upper arm heavy at the top, the lower control arm heavy at the bottom, and the tie rod heavy at the side, and the loads on the wheel and brakes are taken by a hub at the center. Since Mazda prefers front-drive systems, the knuckles are of the hub-type construction, with the sealed bearings forced into the casting and the drive shaft passing through to fit to the hub, ensuring there is minimal weight and maintenance is easy.
