Mazda 323 Brake Light Switches Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How are Brake Light Switches Checked and Replaced on Mazda 323?
    A:
The brake light switch is mounted on top of the bracket on the top of the brake pedal and would light up the rear brake lights when the pedal is pressed. To test its operation, verify that the brake lights come on when the pedal is pressed and go off when it goes down then change the switch. When the lights are still not responsive, then the problem could be a lack of a voltage to the switch, a faulty switch, or a faulty circuit between the switch and the lights of which the uncommon possibility of all the brake light bulbs being burned out, though. Diagnosis To diagnose, place a voltmeter or test light to measure the voltage between one side of the switch connector, which should be zero, and then troubleshoot the circuit to the fuse box. In the presence of a voltage, test the other terminal when the brake pedal is pushed, in the absence test the switch and in the presence test the circuit supply to the brake lights. To replace, remove the negative battery cable first, and then remove the electrical connector of the brake light switch, unscrew the lock nut and then loosen the pedal bracket to which the switch is attached and reinstall in the same order in which it was removed, then adjust the brake pedal and switch.
