To take off the
Camshaft seal, you have to first unattach the cable on the negative battery terminal, block rear wheels and park brake. On the compression stroke, insert the position cylinder position number one to TDC then loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt(s) and sprocket(s). In 1.8l DOHC models, remove the timing belt sprocket rear shield. With a fine screwdriver, pry the camshaft seal out of the bore taking care not to nick or scratch the camshaft or the seal bore. Instead, pierce a little hole in the seal, insert a tiny screw into the seal, and then use the screw to remove the seal off the bore, once more taking care not to spoil the camshaft or seal bore. To install, wipe a clean engine oil in the lip of the new camshaft oil seal and jam it in a bit by hand. Tap the seal with a short piece of pipe or a tube to the same depth as the original seal or to the same depth as the edge of the camshaft cap. Lastly, install back the rest of the parts in the reverse sequence and start the engine to ensure that it functions properly.
