Mazda 323 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal after removing the transaxle on Mazda 323?
    A:
This procedure requires the removal of the transaxle in the vehicle. Start by taking off the Flywheel/driveplate. Make a puncture in the rear main oil seal lip using a razor knife. Use a rag-wrapped screwdriver or a seal removing instrument to pry out the old seal. The fast technique of replacing the rear main oil seal is just to pry the old one out. Place the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new seal with engine oil and then pressing the new seal with half of its part into the sealLabel with your hand. Tap it by using a flat punch, large socket or an appropriate short pipe or tubing of the right size to a point at which the oil seal is even with the edge of the rear cover. Apply the engine oil on the crankshaft journal and tap the new seal with a lot of care as the seal lip is rigid and can easily be spoiled during installation. Install back this flywheel / driveplate and the rest of the steps are just the opposite of the removal.
