Mazda 323 Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to properly remove and install a tie rod end on Mazda 323?
    A:
To loosen the tie rod, make sure that the lug nuts of the wheels are loosened, lift up the front part of the vehicle and ensure that it has been fixed on jackstands, block the back wheels and park the car brake before removing the front wheel. Then remove the cotter pin out of the castle nut, but do not take out the nut on the tie-rod end stud. Hold the tie rod with the locking pliers or a wrench and loosen the jam nut just enough so as to leave a mark on the position of the tie-rod end with regard to the threads. Attach the tie-rod to a puller, and unscrew the end on a tie-rod. To install, thread the end of tie-rod to the marked point of the tie-rod and install the tie-rod stud into the Steering Knuckle arm and screw the jam nut firmly. Install the castle nut on the stud and screw it to the required torque, on which a new cotter pin is installed, the hole to fit into one of the slots of the nut. Lastly install a wheel and lug nuts, then drop the vehicle and install lug nuts to the required torque, and then get it adjusted by a dealer service department or an alignment shop.
