Mazda 6 A/C Condenser

The Mazda 6 A/C Condenser ensures that the temperature in the car is still comfortable since the heat, captured by the refrigerant, is released to the external environment. It is a small heat exchanger and is mounted just in front of the radiator with fast-moving airflow passing through its aluminum fins, sucking out the heat of the fluid that was squeezed into gaseous refrigerant by the compressor. Within that narrow rectangular casing, a maze of small tubes directs that hot vapor, with the surrounding fins dissipating the heat across that vapor; the surrounding fins spread out the heat to the surrounding air, causing the vapor to cool and return to the high-pressure liquid ready to be pumped into the next cooling process. Since the Mazda A/C Condenser has to lose heat fast, it is completely made of lightweight aluminum, a metal that conducts heat well without rusting. Over the years the design principles have remained unchanged and therefore drivers will not see any drastic style change between early and late Mazdas but only gradual changes that enhance the airflow and density of the tubes. Those who own the new Mazda 6 observe rapid cool-down partly due to the fact that the layout does not put the unit in a different location, at least not in the grille opening, but rather in the airstream, producing the maximum temperature drop without increasing the bulk beneath the hood. After exiting the A/C Condenser, the liquefied refrigerant proceeds to the accumulator, which is then connected to the evaporator; the loop repeats itself, and a healthy unit ensures the good flow of air even on the hot days to all modern Mazda drivers.

Mazda 6 A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What steps should be taken to remove and replace the A/C condenser on Mazda 6?
    A:
Have the air conditioning system discharged by an automotive air conditioning technician. For 2008 and earlier models, remove the Radiator support. For 2009 and later models, drain the engine coolant, remove the air filter housing and inlet air assembly then disconnect the fan motor electrical connector(s). Remove the cooling fan/shroud assembly from the radiator, remove the throttle body with all coolant hoses attached and set it to the side, and remove the radiator. For all models, disconnect the refrigerant inlet and outlet pipes from the condenser. Remove the bolt or nut securing the pipes to the block that is part of the condenser. Cap the lines to prevent contamination. The refrigerant pipe block is retained by a bolt and a rivet that must be drilled out. Remove the condenser mounting bolts and remove the condenser. If you're going to reinstall the same condenser, store it with the line fittings facing up to prevent oil from draining out. If you're going to install a new condenser, pour one ounce of refrigerant oil of the correct type into it prior to installation. Before reconnecting the refrigerant lines to the condenser, be sure to coat a pair of new O-rings with refrigerant oil, install them in the refrigerant line fittings and tighten the condenser inlet and outlet nuts to the torque. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
