Camshaft lobe straight above it. The measurement must be between the base circle of the camshaft lobe and the top of the lifter. Feeler gauges must be used to measure the clearances. The distance between each camshaft lobe and the lifter must be checked. The measurements recorded for each lifter must be noted down carefully. You must remove the camshafts and any out-of-spec lifters if any measurement is outside the recommended clearance. New lift designs can be supplied with a range of thicknesses to correct the valve clearances. Each design is marked with a thickness number. It is important to only consider the number after the decimal point. For example, if a design is marked "0.650" then this refers to a thickness of 3.650 mm. To calculate the thickness of the new lifters. Take the thickness of the original lifter and add it to the measured clearance. Then, minus the midrange figure for the ideal clearance. This will give you the correct lifter thickness to order. Note that all thicknesses are not available, so its best to take the closest to what you need. After installation of camshafts and
Timing Chain check valve clearance again. Reinstall the remaining part in reverse order and run the engine to check for leaks.
