Removing rear bank
Cylinder Head of a 3.0L engine requires first removing the
Timing Chain of the rear bank of the cylinder and labeling the positions of each cap of the camshaft, in order to prevent confusion. Tighten the bolts that hold the camshaft bearing caps in the reverse order of installation, then remove the caps by tapping them slightly with the hammer, as necessary. Label the intake and exhaust camshafts (so that they can be installed correctly), and then remove them together with the rocker arms, which will be stored in an appropriate container and identified. Take out the hydraulic lash adjusters out of their bores, and store them in a tidy manner to be reassembled. In the case of the front bank, rotate the crankshaft until the camshafts are in the neutral position, then take out the timing chain, water pump pulley and oil seal retainer, then do the same thing to the front camshafts, rocker arms and the lash adjusters. In the inspection, examine all hydraulic lash adjusters to determine wear, measure their diameter, and examine the condition of rocker arms and cam lobe damage. Measure camshaft lobe lift and wear of bearings journals by using Plastigage to measure oil clearance. To install, lubricate, and install the rocker arms and the lash adjusters, then the camshafts and the bearing caps and tighten them in order. Lastly, put in the timing chain and cover, reconnect the battery and ensure there are no leaks once the engine is started. In the case of the 3.7L engine, it is important to have the engine out and specially designed camshaft holding tools and repeat a similar exercise during the removal and installation whilst checking the clearances of the valves and proper lubrication in the entire engine.
