The process can only be done when the engine is out of the car, so the 3.7L engine is assumed to be out of the car and, therefore, in the process that is not applicable, disregard it. Start by taking off the
Oil Pan and the oil screen/ pick-up tube assembly. Then take off the
Timing Chain cover, timing chains and crankshaft sprockets. Loosen all the four oil pump mounting bolts by turning them one step at a time (three mounting on 3.7L engines), and then loosen each bolt, in small steps, progressively. In case of loose bolts, take out all bolts and oil pump, spinning the oil pump housing clockwise to detach it with the oil pickup tube on the 3.7L engines. Then pull out the oil pump cover of the oil pump body, and record any identification marks on the rotors then remove them out of the pump body. Wash and dry thoroughly, checking the rotors visually against apparent wear or damages; in case of any rotor, or of the pump body, or of the cover, being scored or damaged, the entire oil pump assembly is to be changed. In case the parts of the oil pump are not too worn, rinse the rotors in a clean engine oil and place them into the pump body, with any identifying mark placed as indicated during the dismantling process. Install the cover and screw everything in. When installing, rotate the inner rotor in the oil pump to align it with the flats on the crankshaft and then install the oil pump on the crankshaft and screw it firmly against the wall of the cylinder block, and counterclockwisely on 3.7L engines to fit the oil pickup tube O-ring. Attach the oil pump bolts and screw until tight, then screw the bolts until tight, but in a criss-cross, then tighten the bolts by gradual and even increments to the required torque. Lastly, fit the rest of the parts in the reverse sequence that they were removed, pour in fresh engine oil, and fit in a new oil filter before starting the engine and checking on any leakages.
