Inspect the spark plug cables visually, watching them either for burns, cuts, or damage to the insulation, and inspect the spark plug boots and the nipples on the distributor cap and coil, and replace any broken wiring. In case of no visible damage, test the wires with excessive resistance by disconnecting one lead of the ohmmeter to one end of the intended cable, and to the other end by connecting the ohmmeter lead to each terminal; a maximum resistance of 22,400 ohms per 39.37 inches (1 meter) of cable, and a desired resistance of 16,000 ohms. When changing a new set of spark plug cables, change them one at a time, in order to prevent confusion, the longest cable should be installed first, then the boot must be clamped over the spark plug, and the wire should be laid in the same manner as the other. Insert the nipple firmly into the tower on the distributor cap and repeat that procedure with each cable, including the one that will pass through the middle of the distributor cap into the ignition coil, with the RX- 7 having two ignition coil cables and going to the distributor cap.
