In order to dismantle and install a thermostat, place a drain pan beneath the radiator and empty approximately a gallon of coolant till the level is below the thermostat. Unplug the radiator hose to the thermostat housing and, where present, unplug the electrical connector of the coolant temperature sensor. Take off the mounting nuts or bolts, housing, gasket and thermostat. Wipe down all gasket areas. To install, set the new thermostat with the temperature sensing pellet downward or within the block with the jiggle pin being at the top. On 2.0L engine install the thermostat gasket with the marked side against the
Cylinder Head and make sure the thermostat is in the right place before fitting the gasket. Install the housing using the bolts, use a new mounting gasket, with the thermostat cover on the 929 with the mark facing the front of the engine, and torque the bolts to 14-22 ft. lbs. (19-30 Nm). In case of necessity, attach the thermosensor switch to the housing, and reconnect the radiator hose and attached hose clamp. Fill the cooling system up to the correct level, turn on the engine and allow it to run a few minutes and check around the thermostat housing gasket sealing surface to see whether there are any coolant leaks.
