It has a dry single disc type clutch, which consists of a clutch disc, clutch cover, pressure plate, and a clutch release mechanism, which is hydraulically operated by a master cylinder on the firewall and a slave cylinder on the clutch housing. One should exercise caution because the clutch driven disc has asbestos which is a known cancer causing substance; hence cleaning of the clutch surfaces using compressed air is discouraged and inhaling dusts on the surfaces should be discouraged. A commercially available brake cleaning fluid is to be used when cleaning. To adjust the pedal to the free-play, it should be 0.5-3.0mm with 1972-75 models and 0.6-3.0mm in 1976-84 models and 1987-89 models, respectively. Pedal height and the distance between the floorboard and the top of the pedal should be 215mm of 1972-81, 205mm of 1982-84 gasoline engines, 215mm of diesel engines, and 214-229mm of 1987-89. To adjust the clutch release lever in 1972-75 models, clearance of 3.5-4.5mm should be used to ensure the constant will not be damaged, and no adjustments can be made to the pedal in 1976 and later trucks; rather, the stroke of the pedal should be measured, and a stroke of less than 5mm means that the pedal should be replaced.
