Mazda B2000 Clutch Slave Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to disconnect and install the Clutch Slave Cylinder on Mazda B2000?
    A:
To remove the models of 1972-1984, first un-hook and plug the line at the cylinder, then un-hook the release lever return spring in models up to 1975 or the lever of the pushrod in models after 1976. Take out the nuts and washers which join the slave cylinder to the clutch housing and to install, do the reverse, but make sure to torque the mounting nuts to 12-17 ft. lbs. and fill and bleed the system. On models 1986-1989, elevate the front on jackstands, loosen the flare nut on the fluid pipe to disengage the slave cylinder hose, and then loosen the hose-to-bracket fitting retaining clip and then pull the hose out of the bracket and cap the pipe. Unscrew and take out slave cylinder then follow the process of removal in the same order but reinstall and tighten the bolt at 12-17 ft. lbs. In overhauling 1972-1984 model, be sure to remove the cylinder and clean the outside of the cylinder, next step will be to remove dust cover and release rod, then the piston. Take the bleeder valve apart, discard any worn or damaged components, clean all components in clean brake fluid and hone cylinder bore (where needed). To assemble, lubricate all the parts using clean brake fluid. With models between 1986 and 1989, repeat the same process, but eliminate the return spring and bleeder screw together with the small steel check ball beneath, clean all the parts, and polish the cylinder bore, should it be required, before greasing all parts with clean brake fluid to assemble. To drain the hydraulic system, you will need to loosen the rubber cap on the bleeder valve by loosening it and then hook up a rubber hose to the bleeder valve and then insert the other end of the hose in a container of clean brake fluid. Open up the bleeder valve, press the clutch pedal and release it gradually monitoring the presence of air bubbles in the jar. When all of the air bubbles have disappeared, shut the bleeder valve, take out the tube and make sure that the master cylinder is not less than 3/4 full during the process. Be sure to have fresh brake fluid to fill the master cylinder up to the correct level after bleeding and to place the bleeder valve cap and be careful not to spill fluid used in the jar. Lastly, fit the master cylinder reservoir cap.
