Replacement of the rear main oil seal requires a minor change in the process based on the engine size. In the case of 1,586cc, 1,796cc and 1,970cc engines, when it is determined that only the rear main oil seal is being replaced the engine may not be removed and in case it is determined that both the seal and the rear main bearing is being replaced then the engine is to be removed. Start by taking out the transmission, then the clutch assembly and flywheel in case of manual or the drive plate in case of automatics. Drill two holes on the rear oil seal of the crankshaft, put in the screws and scrape off the seal without leaving any scars on the crankshaft. Wipe the oil recess and apply the oil to the surfaces then install the new seal except it should not be cocked. Turn flywheel or drive plate bolts to given values. In the case of the 2,209cc diesel engine, once the transmission and clutch assembly are removed, the flywheel and rear main seal housing are to be removed, the old seal driving out then the housing should be cleaned. The new seal must be sprayed with gasket sealer and forcefully inserted in place of reassembling. In case of the 1,998cc engine, it will need the transmission, the clutch assembly, flywheel, and end plate to be removed and then the seal in the rear cover to be replaced and sealed with the right amount of torque. The 2,555cc engine involves the removal of the transmission and the housing to reach the seal that must be changed with attention to ensure that it is properly installed. In the case of the 2,184cc and 2,606cc engines, it involves un-connecting the battery, dis-mounting the transmission and applying new gaskets and sealant, but it is important that all the parts are tightened with the required torque when reassembling.
