Mazda B2200 Fuel Pump

The Mazda B2200 Fuel Pump is applied to pump gasoline to the engine located at the back to enable the truck to start up and run well. The early Mazda pickups with a carbureted engine design are based on the use of a camshaft-driven mechanical pump that is bolted to the block, the lever of which rides on an eccentric to force the fuel at a pressure of approximately six psi into the float bowl of the carburetor, a design that maintains a constant flow with the rotation of the motor. When Mazda changed the B2200 to electronic fuel injection, this design substituted that block-mounted unit with an in-tank electric pump that turns at a rapid rate to pressurize the fuel to the range of about forty to sixty psi before reaching the injectors, and the pump is placed next to the level sending unit so that it is cool and quiet under gasoline. The two designs are similar in the same goal, stable volume, and sufficient pressure, but they vary in location, driving mode, and range of pressure, and the electric one incorporates safety since the power shuts off by relay when the voltage goes dead during a crash. The diagnosis of either of the two styles begins with listening to the pump noises during cranking, and confirmation of battery voltage at the connector, followed by pressure and volume tests in case the engine still will not start. Pump choice is determined by performance, and the horsepower divided by the formula of fuel weight applied is a simple way to ensure the correct Fuel Pump meets throttle demand, and a regulator may be necessary on high-flow mechanical units to ensure that psi does not flood the carburetor and make the selected Fuel Pump essential to reliable Mazda operation.

Mazda B2200 Fuel Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to test and replace a Electric fuel pump on Mazda B2200?
    A:
In order to test the fuel pump, the ignition switch should be turned off, and the negative battery cable must be disconnected. The second step is to disconnect the main fuel hose and then attach a pressure gauge to it. Reassemble the negative battery cable and hook together the B and D points of the fuel pump control unit with a jumper wire. Switch on the ignition switch and monitor the fuel pressure that must be at 2.8-3.6 psi. In case pressure does not fit in this range, change the fuel pump. Once tested, the ignition switch should be turned again to the OFF position and a negative battery cable should be disconnected then the fuel pressure gauge should be removed and the main fuel hose should be connected again then jumper wire to the fuel pump control unit should be removed and the negative battery cable should also be connected. Fuel pump is fitted within Fuel Tank and it is attached with the tank sending unit assembly. To remove and install, begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable and, to remove the fuel tank, removing the fuel tank. Have any dirt surrounding the sending unit fuel pump assembly cleaned so that it will not get contaminated in the process. Take out the attaching screws to remove the sending unit/fuel pump assembly. In order to take the pump out of the sending unit assembly, disconnect the electrical connectors and fuel hose (when required). Removal is then inverted, then the new one is installed ensuring the use of a new rubber gasket.
