In order to install and remove the liftgate of the MPV, detach the battery ground cable, unlock the tailgate, and detach the wiring connector and washer hose. Take out the strut-to-tailgate bolts, make marks where the hinge is, support the tailgate, and take out the hinge bolts and then lift off the tailgate. To install, place the liftgate, attaching the mounting bolts, tightening the hinge-to-tailgate bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14Nm) and the strut-to-tailgate bolts to 104 inch lbs. (12Nm). To the Navajos make sure that the liftgate glass is closed prior to the liftgate being opened. Lift the door to the liftgate, open the door, and take off the upper rear center garnish molding, support the door, and disconnect liftgate gas cylinder assist rod assemblies. Slide the headliner with great care and remove the hinge-to-header panel, which has nuts on it, then remove the hinge-to-liftgate panel which has bolts on it, and the entire paneling. The process of installing is the opposite of uninstallation, where the liftgate hinge is also adjusted accordingly. To align the MPV, striker and hinge bolt holes can be moved in order to be in proper contact and may be adjusted to tighten striker bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27Nm) and hinge bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14Nm). In the case of the Navajo, when it comes to the liftgate, make sure that you close the liftgate glass then open the liftgate and slightly adjust the liftgate in a forward and backward and sideways way by loosening the hinge-to-header nut or bolt and then you can also adjust the liftgate to fit within the surrounding panels in a more or less parallel manner.
