The evaporative canister that is found under the hood in the engine compartment is meant to hold the fuel vapors and avoid their release into the atmosphere. In older models, the evaporated fuel in the condenser tank flows back to the fuel tank with the increase in ambient temperature and formation of vapors leading to condensation. Subsequent models do not have a condenser tank. Uncondensed fuel vapor when engine is running is passed to the carbon canister and stored vapors eliminated by fresh air through the inlet hole and sent to the air cleaner to the combustion chamber. In most cases, there is no need to do any maintenance or service unless it is damaged or malfunctioning. Canister is to be tested on whether it is damaged or has leakages at the hose fittings and the old or broken hose need to be repaired or replaced accordingly.
