Mazda B2200 Water Pump

The Mazda B2200 Water Pump prevents the engine in the small pickup truck from being fried by forcing coolant into the block and radiator, allowing the heat to transfer safely to the outside air. The core of its predominantly aluminum housing is a steel shaft pivoting on sealed bearings, which is pulled on the front by the crankshaft belt and on the rear by an impeller that forces coolant through the water jacket passages of the head and block. The liquid absorbs the heat of combustion, goes to the thermostat, and on to the radiator where the passing air takes the heat away. Almost all B2200s applied this mechanical arrangement for driving the belt, but the information given states that electric pumps are increasingly common in recent construction and this could be an alternative in the future. Previous cast-iron bodies were applied, but Mazda units started to use lighter aluminum that does not corrode and reduces weight without altering the fundamental circulation mechanism. The Water Pump is attached low on the engine of the B2200 and it connects to the lower radiator hose, thus completing the core of the cooling loop. Leaks, squeaks, or overheating will alert the driver to trouble as soon as the Water Pump seal is worn or the shaft bearings begin grinding. The pulley that suggests the spinning responsibilities of the pump can be seen with a brief look under the hood of any Mazda, and the recollection of the role played by this simple part will keep a Mazda engine cool and confident.

Mazda B2200 Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the water pump on Mazda B2200?
    A:
To change and replace the water pump of different engines, it is important to start by emptying the cooling system but must remember to put up a container with a seal because the pets can die of the ethylene glycol antifreeze which is poisonous. In case of the 2.2L, disconnect a negative battery cable, unquestion the alternator and power steering pump belt, and the timings belt covers, and then align the crankshaft and remove the crankshaft pulley and water pump. Wipe the mounting surfaces down and fit the new pump using new O-rings and gaskets and tighten the bolts to the required torque. To disassemble the engine 2.6L, take off hoses and the drive pulley shield, and place a new O-ring gasket then screw in the water pump assembly. The 1989-93 models differ slightly, disconnecting the battery ground, accessory drive belts are removed and the fan removed then cleaning the surfaces of the gasket before placing the new pump with a sealer-coated gasket. In the case of the 3.0L engine, a relieve fuel system pressure, release various parts such as air cleaner and drive belts, unbolt and clean water pump surfaces and fit a new gasket and fasten the pump. In the case of 4.0L engine, empty the cooling system, disconnect the hoses and fan assembly, cleanse the mounting surfaces of any debris and apply gasket sealer and mount the new pump, making sure that all the hoses, fan assembly are reclassified and that the system is filled and bled. Once all engines have been installed, leak inspection can be made by running the engine.
