The hoses can be physically checked and the weakened ones found which may cause a breakdown unless fixed. Before checking to see whether there are cracks, rot, or collapse in the engine or cooling system make sure that the engine and cooling systems are cold and the hoses are changed when there is evidence of weakness or swelling. Removing a hose requires removing the radiator pressure cap first and doing so without risking to be hit by hot coolant or steam, preferably when the engine has cooled. Place a clean container beneath the radiator of the engine drain, uncover the drain, and leave the cooling system to empty to an adequate level, taking care that pets can be tempted by drained coolant, which is poisonous. Loose hose clamp on both ends of the hose that requires change, twist, pull and slide the hose off the connection of the fitting and ensure not to inadvertently break the connection. In case the hose becomes stuck, use a razor blade to cut a shallow slice of the hose without damaging the connection. Wipe the connections of the mounting and check the replacement of the clamps. To be installed, dipping the ends of the new hose in clean coolant, sliding the clamps over the ends, and installing the ends of the hose on the connections is required. Position the clamps at least 14 inches (6.35mm) away on the other end and ensure that the clamps are not within the raised bead of the connector. Close radiator or engine drains and replace the coolant emptied into the cooling system with the emptied coolant or an appropriate blend of ethylene glycol and water. Provided there is a pressure tester, then check to ensure there are no leaks, but otherwise, start the engine until it has reached normal operating temperature, and then check the fittings and connections around the engine and other moving components with extreme caution around hot or moving objects.
