Mazda GLC Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What does maintenance involve for front wheel bearings on Mazda GLC?
    A:
Maintenance - The front wheel bearings on rear wheel drive automobiles, the sole wheel bearings that should be lubricated periodically on this type of automobile, are also lubricated by Mazda on front wheel bearings on front wheel drive GLCs. Re-packing Lithium grease (NGLI No. 1) should be done after every 30,000 miles (48,309 km) or 30 months, whichever arrives first. To conduct the looseness test, lift the front part of the car and place it on jackstand and then hold the wheel at 1 o clock and 7 o clock positions and shake it laterally so that it turns smoothly without making any sound. The bearings might be loose or worn, in case a play or abnormal noise is detected. To remove, pack and install, lift the front end, take the front wheel out and the disc brake caliper and hold it to the coil spring. Take off the grease cap, cotter pin, nut lock, adjusting nut, thrust washer and outer wheel bearing and grease the bearings with lithium grease and repack. Fit inner bearing, grease seal, fit the brake disc/hub assembly on the spindle and fit preload of bearing. To preload adjust, hoist on the front end, scrape off grease cover, and clamp the nut to the torque specified, and spring scale measures the frictional force to the necessary range. Repeat process again with other front wheel.
  • Q: How to replace rear wheel bearings on Mazda GLC?
    A:
The steps are relevant to the front wheel drive vehicles only, a few steps are given when changing rear wheel bearing to the rear wheel drive vehicle. On 1988-89 626 and MX-6, a handful of special tools are required to access the rear wheel bearing and it is necessary to make sure they are available before commencing the task. Firstly, it is important to raise up and support the vehicle safely and then remove the tire and wheel assembly. Then remove the rear brake drum or rotor and carefully remove the bearing cage assembly including the bearing retainer where necessary. Renewal of old wheel bearings must not be done. In the case of the 1988-89 626 and MX-6, special tools 49-G033-102, 49-G026, 101, and 49-G026-103 are required, which are used to drive the rotor disc bearing out. Blunt drift used to knock out the bearing race after which a new race with an appropriate mandrel is pressed in with a bench press and made to fit in the hub completely. Install The new bearing is packed with an appropriate lithium disulfide grease (NGLI No. 2 or equivalent) and forced into place either by the drum or rotor, with special tools 49-G030-797, 49-G026-102 and 49-H026 or equivalent installed. Attach bearing retainer where fitted and change oil seal. Lastly, install the brake drum or rotor by reversing the process of removing it, and by tightening the preload of the bearing.
