The air cleaner is a paper element placed in the engine compartment, which is also supposed to be serviced in line with the Maintenance Interval Chart. One should also make more frequent inspections of the air filter element in the case the vehicle is used in exceptionally dusty conditions and replace the element as necessary. First of all, to clean the air cleaner filter, you must loosen the air intake hose clamp, and then disconnect any electrical wire harness connection points on the housing cover. Unscrew or unlace the fasteners of the cover, pick the housing cover and lift it up with much caution then slide it sideways to unlock any retaining tabs. In case of need, pull out the housing cover of the air intake tube. Take out the old air filter element in the housing and examine it, wiping the inside of the housing of any dirt or debris. Make sure that the ignition is switched off, loosen the air intake hose clamp if necessary, unplug the airflow meter electrical connector to the cover, and unbolt the housing cover. Gently remove the cover to reveal the filter and additional covering of the housing can be removed. Once all the air cleaner elements have been removed, check them and put in place where required. To install: Clean the housing of all dirt or foreign substance, fit in the new air filter element and cover, screw up the housing cover bolts or clips and then restore the electrical connector to the airflow meter.
