- Q: How to remove and install the fuel pump and sending unit on Mazda Millenia?A:To change the fuel pump and sending unit and replace the fuel pump and sending unit of the 323, Protege, 1990-92 626, MX-6 and 1992-94 MX-3, begin by discharging the fuel pressure and unscrewing the negative battery cable. To remove the rear seat cushion, squeeze the clips, and remove the electrical connector with the fuel pump/sending unit, and access cover by unscrewing. Turn off the fuel supply and return hoses and remove the pump/sending unit of the fuel pump in the tank. Disconnect electrical connector of the sending unit, unscrew the connecting nuts and unscrew the attaching nuts and remove the sending unit of the assembly. Installation To install, connect the sending unit on the fuel pump assembly, the nuts and reconnect the electrical connector. Install the fuel pump/sending back into the tank using a new gasket and attaching using mounting screws. Install the access cover, reconnect the fuel lines and make sure that the rear seat cushion is positioned correctly. Lastly, re- attach the negative battery cable, start the engine and inspect it with regard to correct operation and fuel leaks. The 1995 MX-3 models require the same steps except that it is vital to release the pressure of the fuel system and unplug the battery cable prior to the removal of the rear seat cushion and cleaning the regions around the fuel pump cover.
