Mazda Millenia Fuel Tank

The Mazda Millenia Fuel Tank serves as a sealed gasoline reservoir in the car, and it is the place where the electric pump and level sender are located, which make sure the car has the same fuel pressure and the same gauge reading every time. Within the enclosure, slosh is suppressed by baffles, keeping the pickup underwater during sharp turns or even hard stops, and the unit collaborates with the EVAP system to trap vapors until they can be consumed by an engine and help each Mazda sedan meet the regulations. The Millenia employed two types of tanks throughout its production line. A large number of early automobiles were made using stamped and welded steel, which is a durable material that is not easily damaged but may be susceptible to external salt corrosion or internal rust that is not easily detectable but ultimately causes perforation. Subsequent models would use blow molded high-density polyethylene, which is lighter and does not rust or make much noise on the road, but can still develop cracks under extreme heat, cold, or hard blows. Materials notwithstanding, a Fuel Tank is leak tested in the factory, furnished with a new locking ring and seal, and installed below the rear floor where it must withstand the effects of rain, snow, ice, and even debris thrown up by the wheels. Since corroded metal straps may put the installation at risk, replacing the straps in addition to the tank will keep the Mazda firmly in position, providing Mazda drivers with a continuous power supply. Through prudent construction and defensive mounting, the Fuel Tank is a sure way of storing energy every trip.

Mazda Millenia Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the fuel tank on Mazda Millenia?
    A:
Removal and installation of the fuel tank on the 323 and Protege (except on 4WD) This requires release of the fuel system pressure, and disconnection of the negative battery cable. Deassemble the rear seat cushion pushing the clips, and detach the electrical connector of the sending unit and the access cover. Lift and hold the car, remove the fuel and evaporative hose, empty the fuel tank into an appropriate vessel. Before removing the tank, loosen the insulator screws of the fuel tank, stabilize the fuel tank and loosen the fuel tank straps. Installation requires setting up of the tank and fixing it using the straps, tightening the bolts to set torque values. Build and refit the rear seat, reconnect the hoses, attach the connector of the sending unit, and reconnect the hoses. On 4WD models, repeat the above steps but also take the fuel pump covers off, unscrew more hoses and the driveshaft and exhaust parts and then get on with the installation of the tank. In the case of the 1990-92 626 and MX-6, the steps involved involve emptying the tank, disconnection of different hoses, and strapping the tank to the car. The models of 1993-98 will need extra procedures like the removal of pre-silencer exhaust pipe and heat shield. In the case of the Millenia, one should take out the rear seat cushion, disconnection of fuel lines and having the tank and hoses installed correctly. When changing the sending unit on the MX-3, 323, Protege, and 1990-92 626 and MX-6, release the fuel pressure, disassemble the rear seat cushion and unscrew the electrical connector then access the sending unit. With the 1993-98 models, repeat the same procedures with being careful to support the tank when removing it and attaching it when installing, and making sure that all hoses and electrical connections are secure.
