- Q: What precautions should be taken when draining coolant and installing a cylinder head on Mazda Millenia?A:During coolant draining, one should be careful because ethylene glycol antifreeze may attract pets, which can cause fatal effects when consumed. The coolant should always be emptied into a sealable container and reused except when it is dirty or after a number of years. The cylinder head must be well cleaned and checked before mounting it, particularly when it was taken off to fit a blown gasket. On 1990-94 1.6L and 1.8L engines, disconnect negative battery cable, take off engine undercover, air ducts, spark plug wires, and distributor assembly, drain cooling system and disconnect hoses and pipes. Take the Intake Manifold and cylinder head cover off and loosen the cylinder head bolts and require lifting the head. Installation requires cleaning of the surfaces, inspection of the head gasket and alignment of the timing marks, which can be done in orderly sequence before tightening of the bolts. Repeat this with 1995 1.6L engines, 1.5L engines, and 1995-98 1.8L engines, 2.0L engines, 2.2L engines, 1.8L (K8) engines and 2.5L engines, and be certain to follow unique torque requirements and installation order in each engine type. Installation Once installed, reconnect all the components, fill and bleed the cooling system, replace the engine oil, and ensure that there are no leaks and everything is operating correctly.
