Mazda Millenia Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the exhaust manifold on Mazda Millenia?
    A:
In order to remove and install the exhaust manifold with 1995-98 1.5L and 1.8L (except K8) engines, begin by unscrewing the negative battery cable, then removing air cleaner and air hose, and unscrewing the water bypass pipe bolt. The second step is to take away exhaust manifold heat shield and the oxygen sensor electrical connector. Carefully lift up the vehicle and then loosen and dispose the exhaust pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts, hanging the exhaust system on wire. Unplug the EGR pipe off the manifold and lift the vehicle to get the exhaust manifold off and dispose the nuts. To install, clean all surfaces to which the gasket will be used to mate, install a new gasket, and the manifold and tighten the nuts and bolts to recommended torque. After this, reconnect the exhaust pipe, oxygen sensor, and EGR pipe and lower the vehicle and reconnect the heat shield, water bypass pipe bolt, air hose, and air cleaner then reconnect the battery cable. The process in 1.8L (K8) and 2.5L engines starts the same way with battery disconnection, car support, disconnection of the oxygen sensor and removal of the exhaust system. Once the surfaces are cleaned, and the manifold is installed using a new gasket, reconnect the heat shield, exhaust pipes and oxygen sensors and then lower the vehicle and reconnect the battery. With the 2.3L engine, a similar process is to be undertaken, but different components should be disconnected to be tightened to a particular torque according to the specifications. In all other engines, disconnection of battery, removal of exhaust manifold insulator, oxygen sensor where necessary, and elevating the vehicle to disconnect the exhaust pipe are all required. Provided with turbocharger, empty the cooling system and disconnect related hoses, and remove the manifold. Installation will reverse the steps used to remove parts, so that all gasket surfaces are clean and new gasketes are used and tightened to the required values of the torque.
