In order to remove and install parts of different engine types, begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable and removing the engine under splash shield. On the 1.6L and 1.8L engines, accessory drive belts, crankshaft pulley, timing belt guide plates and timing belt covers should be removed and then installed again in reverse order, taking into account the correct torque specifications. To access the spark plugs and the cylinder head cover, drain the cooling system, take off the air intake pipe, the radiator hoses, and other belts of the 1.5L and 1.6L DOHC engines. Install timing covers, install spark plugs, and reconnect hoses. With the 1.8L DOHC engines, use the same steps to install and to remove timing covers and pulleys. In the case of the 2.0L engine, lift the vehicle, take off the right front wheel, then go through the removal procedure of the power steering pump and timing covers and then place them back in with the required amount of torque. The engine 2.2L needs the removal of side cover and crankshaft pulley after which timing covers are installed. In both the 1.8L (K8) and the 2.5L engines, disassemble several parts, take off timing covers and ensure correct re-assembly of all the parts. Finally, draining the cooling system, stripping the 2.3L engine of the parts required, and fitting them back in reverse with all the fasteners tightened to specifications is necessary.
