The transaxle transmission assembly needs to be removed and installed, therefore, the negative battery cable must be disconnected and the vehicle raised safely. Then remove transaxle transmission assembly. Removing Clutch and
Flywheel assembly, in case of the manual transaxle; flex plate-to-crankshaft bolt, flex plate, and shim plates, in case of the automatic transaxle. Using a knife, cut the oil seal lip, place a rag into the housing and then carefully lift the oil seal out of the oil seal housing with a screwdriver, and clean the gasket mounting surfaces. To install, remove any oil in the oil seal housing and grease the oil seal and the housing with clean engine oil. Insert the oil seal into the housing, making sure it is even with the edge of the rear cover by hammering and pressing with a large diameter piece of pipe. Lastly, fit the clutch/flywheel assembly or flex plate where necessary, re-fit the transaxle transmission, lower the car and reconnect the negative battery cable.
