In order to replace and install 1.6L, 1.8L (except K8) and 2.2L engine parts, first, disconnect the vent hose and take off the PCV valve of the rocker arm cover. The second thing to do is to remove the spark plug wires off the wire clips followed by the retaining bolts of the rocker arm cover together with the cover and gasket. Installation requires: Clean off all old gasket material, re-apply a new gasket on the rocker arm cover and seal the groove with silicone sealer. Reattach the rocker arm cover using retaining bolts that have been tightened to 43-78 inch lbs (5-9Nm), and then reattach the spark plug wires, PCV valve, and vent hose. Turn the engine on and ensure that there is no leakage. Unbolt power steering hose brackets, when needed, label and loosen spark plug wires, disconnect vent and PCV hose, and loosen cover bolts equally, then remove the valve cover. Wipe the surfaces, place a new gasket, silicone sealer and place the cover back with bolts tightened at 52-69 inch lbs (6-8Nm). Install the spark plug wires, PCV hose and vent hose once again and start the engine and ensure that there are no leaks. With 1.8L DOHC (K8), 2.3L and 2.5L engines, disconnect negative battery cable, remove
Intake Manifold stay bracket (where applicable), disconnect vent hose, remove spark plug wires and record their position of origin. To remove the rear valve covers, remove intake manifold assembly, ventilation pipe and cover assembly. Wipe the surfaces, fit a new gasket, smear with silicone sealer and replace the cover assembly with bolts tightened to 43-78 inch lbs (4.9-8.8Nm). Install a new gasket on the intake manifold assembly (removed) and reattach the ventilation pipe and tighten the bolts, loosely tighten the bolts and nuts. On 1.8L and 2.5L engines, replace the intake manifold stay and attach the bolts to 14-19 ft. lbs(19-25 Nm) then attach the intake manifold nuts and bolts accordingly. Lastly, re-attach the vent hoses and negative battery cable and then start the engine to check whether there are leaks.
