Mazda MPV PCV Valve

The Mazda MPV PCV Valve is the built-in air recycling system of the minivan, which recycles the gases produced in the crankcase back to the engine, where they are cleanly burned as opposed to being released into the atmosphere. The valve purges the dangerous emissions and keeps the Mazda engine oil free of sludge by diverting and combusting partially burnt vapors into the intake stream, as well as potentially assisting the rings in sealing better, providing a slight increase in efficiency to the 3.0-liter or 3.5-liter powerplants. The internal spring of the PCV Valve functions in conjunction with intake manifold vacuum, and thus, when the throttle is at idle, the passage remains small, and when the throttle is applied the pintle moves farther and the opening expands to accommodate increased flow of blow-by. This basic vacuum-modulated movement also prevents intake backfires with the effect of a flame arrestor covering the crankcase. During the manufacturing cycle Mazda retained one simple design, thus drivers will not be forced to cope with different generations and perplexing models. Regular check-up is also prudent since an obstructed valve may allow pressure to accumulate, damage seals, or create rough idling in a Mazda. The PCV Valve is working and requires minimal additional maintenance when it rattles freely in a shake test and does not appear to have any clogging. Concisely, the valve allows the MPV to comply with the emissions requirements, maintain power at the same level, and have a longer engine life without requiring special care.

Mazda MPV PCV Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to check and maintain the PCV valve on Mazda MPV?
    A:
When checking the valve, first remove it out of the grommet of the valve cover, however, in V6 models the PCV valve is in the valve cover at the left hand valve, whereas on four-cylinder engines, the PCV valve is in a grommet on the front of the valve cover. Shake the valve; it ought to rattle and then it is not deposited. Should it not rattle, change it with another, should it, install it again. Turn on the engine and idle it then disconnect PCV hose. When vacuum is experienced then the PCV valve system is working fine, because you should experience suction on your thumb when the engine is running. When no vacuum is experienced, then look at the oil filler cap, hose, or valve cover gasket as it is leaking or the PCV valve is faulty. Slide the valve upwards and out straight to take out and inspect the rubber grommet, to see whether it is cracked or distorted; change it out should it be. In case the valve is congested, the hose will be clogged too so remove the hose and clean it with solvent. Clean the hose and check it against the fittings to check its damage, wear and deterioration. Install a new PCV valve (where needed) with an elbow (where installed) not being part of the PCV valve and should be transferred over. In case a new elbow is bought it might require time in warm water to be able to fit on the new valve without breaking. Lastly, attach clean PCV system hose making sure that the PCV valve and PCV hose are firmly fixed.
