Before starting this process, contact the local parts stores and dealer service departments regarding the purchase of a rebuild kit or a new clutch slave cylinder because the availability and the cost of the parts required could dictate whether a rebuild or replacement is done. In case of rebuilding the cylinder, examine the bore. In 2005 and earlier models, have the vehicle raised and secure it on jack stands, and disconnect the hydraulic line at the clutch slave cylinder, and the hydraulic line in the clutch slave cylinder, with a flare-nut wrench present (where possible) to avoid rounding the fitting off. Get a small can and rags to use in instances where the fluid spills, and cover the fluid line. Get out the clutch slave cylinder. Unfasten the mounting bolts on the clutch slave cylinder. To overhaul, push the piston and seal out, holding on with low-pressure air where necessary, by tapping the cylinder on a block of wood so that the pushrod and boot are removed. Take the spring out of the cylinder and closely examine the bore, looking for deep scratches, score marks, and ridges; in case of any defect, change the clutch slave cylinder. Install the parts with new parts of the rebuild kit and ample fresh brake fluid to lubricate the parts, record the installed direction of the spring and seal. To install, put the clutch slave cylinder on the clutch housing making sure that the pushrod is fitting inside the release fork pocket and then connect the hydraulic line and tighten the connection. Pour brake fluid that meets the DOT 3 requirements into the
Clutch Master Cylinder and bleed the system and then lower the vehicle. In the case of 2006 and beyond, put the vehicle on jack stands, find the clutch slave cylinder on the left side of the transmission bell housing, un-solder the hydraulic line on both the transmission bell housing and the clutch slave cylinder, and unscrew the clutch slave cylinder mounting bolts and remove the clutch slave cylinder. In case of rebuilding, repeat the steps taken in the previous steps of overhaul and in installing the clutch slave cylinder, it is important that the mounting bolts be tightened to the desired torque and the process of installing occurs in the same way as removing.
