2008 Mazda Tribute Oil Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the best way to remove the oil pump during an engine overhaul for V6 engine on 2008 Mazda Tribute?
A: This task can be performed as a part of an overall engine overhaul since it is difficult to remove the oil pump when the engine is in the car. Start by first taking out the oil pan, then the oil pick-up tube and oil pick-up screen. Then remove the engine front cover, timing chains and crankshaft sprockets. Tighten all the four oil pump mounting bolts by one full turn and then loosen all the bolts by loosening each of them, in small steps at a time. When all the bolts are loose, take them off, and the oil pump. Then remove the oil pump cover of the oil pump body and record any identification marks on the rotors and then remove the rotors out of the pump body. Wipe the parts with a clean cloth and examine the rotors with regard to any visible wear or damage; in case of any rotor, pump body or the cover being scored or damaged, the whole oil pump assembly will have to be replaced. In case the components are in a good condition, dip the rotors in clean engine oil then fit them in the pump body with the identification marks placed as they were when they were taken out. Installation Rotate the inner rotor of the oil pump so it is directly in line with the flats on the crankshaft then install the oil pump on top of the crankshaft and secure it in place by clamping against the cylinder block. Put in the bolts of the oil pump and thread them in by hand until tight and then gradually and evenly screw them in to the required torque. Lastly, replace the rest of the parts inareverse sequence, pour in new oil in the engine, replace a new oil filter, and fill the cooling system.
