2008 Mazda Tribute Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub on 2008 Mazda Tribute?
A: In 2012 or older models, the pressing of the bearings and hub of the steering knuckle will need special tools and experience and it is better to leave this job to a professional mechanic. The trailing arm may be pulled off and transported to an authorized repair shop in possession of the appropriate tools. On newer models (2013 and above), you should start by removing the lug nuts on the wheels, lifting the car, and then securely placing the car on jackstands and blocking the front wheels (lest the car roll over). Pull off the wheel and in the case of an AWD car remove the driveaxle/hub nut. Then take out the brake caliper and disc. In the case of AWD, the driveaxle should be pushed into the hub with the flange puller until the bearing assembly bolts are reached. On FWD vehicles, disconnect electrical connector of ABS wheel speed sensor with hub. Unscrew the four bolts connecting the assembly, making sure to put in new ones, and dispose of the old ones. In case the hub is rusted in position, penetrating oil and few blows of a hammer will release the hub. Wipe the mating surfaces of the new hub and knuckle, and match up the bolt holes, and make sure that the hub is completely seated before tightening the new bolts to the required tightness. In the case of AWD models, a puller of the driveaxle into the hub is of a tubular nature. Install the brake disc, caliper mounting bracket and caliper again, and apply the fasteners to the required torque. Lastly, with AWD models, replace a hub nut and tighten it to a certain amount of torque, and then install it in the opposite sequence in which it was removed.
