How to remove and install the intake manifold on Mazda 3?

To remove the upper engine cover, pull it up from each side and lift it off the mounting posts in the center. Relieve the fuel system pressure, then remove the battery cover and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, take off the air cleaner outlet hose and remove the fresh air duct mounting fasteners along with the air duct. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the swirl control solenoid valve, variable intake air solenoid, throttle body, MAF/IAT sensor, and fuel distributor, then remove the air intake duct from the throttle body. If the intake manifold plenum is being removed solely for cylinder head service, the throttle body does not need to be detached. Raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, then remove the lower engine cover fasteners and covers. Disconnect and plug the coolant hoses to the throttle body, release the harness clips, and set aside the wiring harness at the top of the intake manifold. Disconnect the fuel line quick disconnect connector and separate the fuel line from the fuel rail. The intake manifold is secured with eight bolts, one below and seven along the top; note the original positions of the bolts as there are two sizes. Remove the bolts and pull the intake manifold away from the engine to access and disconnect the EGR pipe (if equipped) and the crankcase vent hose from the oil separator, squeezing the two clips on the vent hose to release it. For installation, use new manifold gaskets for each of the four ports, install the intake manifold, and tighten the bolts and nuts in several stages, working from the center out to the specified torque. The installation process is the reverse of removal.
