Pull up the lever of the parking brake. On 2008 and earlier models, a plastic trim tool is used to take out the rear access panel in the floor console being cautious not to break the panel, and pry the rear console cover open to unlock the parking brake adjuster. In 2009 and subsequent models, lift up the center console center section and raise and over the parking brake lever. Make the nut so that the exposed threads were 0.59 inch/15 mm; adjust the adjusting nut so that the exposed threads were 0.59 inch. The parking brake cables can have been worn out and thus need more threads on the adjuster when they are aged. When parking the brake has been engaged, make sure that it is indeed holding the vehicle by lifting and supporting the rear part of the vehicle and preventing the front wheels; you can also turn the rear tires manually to ensure that the cables are adjusted in an appropriate manner. Two clicks on the handle should give sufficient drag on the rear brakes, four clicks should lock the rear brakes.
