How to remove and install the airbag module and steering wheel on Mazda 6?

The airbag module should be removed and to do so firstly turn off the ignition key and then disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least two minutes before removing it. The second step is to turn the steering wheel to face the wheels directly forward and take out the key. With a small screwdriver, loosen the plastic covers of the airbag module mounting bolts on the steering wheel on either side then remove the bolts and carefully pull the airbag module off the steering wheel on either side. Tear the connector locks and pull out the electrical connectors of the airbag module, and then remove the airbag and put it in a safe and isolated location. Mark match positions on the steering shaft and wheel and unscrew steering wheel mounting nut and shake wheel until it breaks free of the steering shaft, guiding the wires and connector attachments out of the wheel as you do so. Tape the clock spring to help it not rotate with care not to rotate the steering shaft with the wheel and airbag off or it will break the clock spring. The clock spring: remove the steering column covers, disconnect, and screw remove the steering column. To install, should the clock spring have been removed install it now and center by turning the inner rotor counter clockwise until resistance is experienced then turn counter clockwise about 2 to 2-1/4 turns and place the electrical connector where the 12 o clock mark is. Installation of the wheel requires wiring and air bag connectors to be run through the wheel, the steering wheel on the steering shaft to fit the match marks and the steering wheel nut to be attached to the required torque. The rest of the installation procedures are simply the reverse process of the steps to be performed to remove them, the connectors must be installed properly on the airbag module by positioning with the safety tabs facing up, matching the color-coding of the airbag connector and ensure that the airbag module is firmly clamped down towards the wheel until the retaining clips lock.
