To troubleshoot the liftgate latch, first remove the negative battery terminal cable. Take off the liftgate's trim panel after opening it. Using the large access hole, disconnect the outside door handle-to-latch/lock rod, which is secured by a plastic clip. You can do this by unsnapping the portion that engages the connecting rod and pulling the rod out of its locating hole. Detach the electrical connectors from the latch. Remove the screws that attach the latch to the liftgate. Take the latch assembly out through the door opening. Installation is done in the reverse order of removal. In order to reach the liftgate exterior handle, open the liftgate and remove the liftgate trim panel to disconnect the outside door handle-to-latch/lock rod. After removing the rear finish trim nuts, remove the trim. Next remove the handle mounting nuts and the handle care from the liftgate. What is the remaining installation of the reverse of the removal.
