Start by removing the engine access cover when it is fitted. In the case of the front valve cover, one must disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube, the ignition coils and the air filter housing and duct. Unhook the wiring harness at the valve cover and move it aside; on 3.7l engines, the dipstick and tube of the engine oil should also be removed. Unscrew the VCT electrical connector, oxygen sensor connector, and loosen the valve cover bolts/nuts in stages and evenly until all the bolts have been loosened, in the same sequence as when tightening them. Unscrew the valve cover bolts and take off the valve cover of the engine, and dispose of the old gaskets and spark plug tube seals and add new ones during the reassembly. Check the sealing surfaces of the valve cover and the cylinder head and clean them with brake system cleaner. Install the new valve cover gasket and be sure that it is firmly in place and apply a 5/16-inch bead of RTV sealant at the designated points. Install the valve cover by gently placing it in the frame and making sure the gaskets remain so that they do not fall out and then screw on the cover fasteners one at a time and then to the correct torque. Cv Reattach the wiring harness and crankcase ventilation tube, and screw the valve cover bolts into proper correct sequence. In the case of rear valve cover, the power steering fluid reservoir, lower cowl cover and windshield washer fluid reservoir are removed followed by the removal of the upper intake manifold and ignition coils. Unplug the oxygen sensor connector, and place the wiring harness and radio/ignition interference capacitor (where present), then unplug the crankcase ventilation tube. On 3.7L engines, draw aside the air conditioning refrigerant pipe in order to clear the valve cover. Unscrew the valve cover fasteners in stages until they are all loose, storing a record of the position of the studs to be reassembled with, then remove the valve cover off the cylinder head. Disassemble the old gasket and check the seals of the spark plug tubes replacing them with new gaskets and seals when needed. Blot the sealing areas and fit a new valve cover gasket and make sure that it fits into position and use RTV sealant on target joints. Fasten the valve cover gradually and even to the required torque, then replace all wiring harnesses and brackets, ignition coils and the top of the intake manifold, and in that order of removal installation.
