To enhance the idle smoothness, the ISC system varies the amount of intake air by regulation of the bypass air passing through the throttle body to enable the computer to adjust engine idle speed. To test the ISC valve, take away the IAC valve electrical plug and measure the resistance across both terminals with the required temperature with each of the models. Having removed the valve, cool the valve and measure the movement of the valve. First, open the ISC valve connector when the engine is cold and on idling and record the engine rpm then reconnect the connector. Heat the engine to normal operating temperature, reconnect the connector and ensure that the engine rpm is lower when warm with the ISC disconnected. Test resistance of the valve with an ohmmeter and make sure that it is within the range of resistance given by different models. In case the resistance is not within the specification, then take out the throttle body valve, blow air through port A, and ensure that no air passes out through port B at normal operating temperature. Let the valve cool down, and note the motion of the valve, and test whether or not the air will come out of port B when cold. In case it is not up to specifications change the valve. To remove and install, detach the negative battery cable, disconnect or remove air intake piping if required, disconnect electrical harness connection, disconnect any hoses and remove ISC valve attaching bolts. Wipe the gasket mating surfaces with clean hands, and then place the ISC valve in by repeating the procedure that was used to remove it.
