How to replace the idle control valve on Mazda Tribute?

The procedure is only applicable to the 2008 and older models since the newer models have a throttle body which is electronically operated and does not need an idle air control valve. In the case of four-cylinders, first unscrew the cable at the negative terminal on the battery then jack up the front of the car on jackstands. Find the IAC valve in the bottom of the intake manifold, remove the electrical connector, and the two mounting bolts. Once the IAC valve has been removed, replace the old gasket with a new one, connecting the bolts to recommended tightness, and then carefully re-connect the electrical connector. Get the vehicle down and reconnect the battery cable. The Powertrain Control Module should now learn again its idle and fuel trim strategy to allow optimum performance. In the V6 models, the battery disconnection process begins the same way and then IAC valve is found on top of the intake manifold over the throttle body. Unscrew the electrical connector, strip off the mounting bolts, and unscrew the IAC valve, and dispose of the old gasket. Install a new gasket and make sure that it is in place then again install IAC valve and tighten bolt. Lastly, reconnect the battery cable and have the Powertrain Control Module relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy in order to provide optimal driveability.
