When changing and replacing the rack and pinions, first of all, it is necessary to provide safety and raise and support the vehicle and disconnect the negative battery cable and take off the front wheels. Then remove the cotter pins in the two steering tie rod ends and the nuts. Use special tie rod press tool to press the tie rod out of the knuckle arm. Loose the pressure line and pipe back to the rack and pinions and remove the set plate through the firewall. Loosen the fixing bolt between the steering shaft and the rack and pinions pinion shaft, and part the two parts. In case of need, loosen the connection of the shifter of the manual transmission. Unscrew the rack and pinions mounting nuts and remove the rack and pinions on right hand side of the car. To install, install rack and pinions back again, fasten with the mounting nuts/bolts, and tighten to 28-38 ft. lbs. (37-52Nm). Connect the steering shaft again with the rack and pinions pinion shaft, the bolt/nut should be tightened to the required torque. In case the manual transmission shift linkage was removed, then reconnect it and replace the set plate to the firewall. Reconnect pressure line and hose to rack and pinions, then screw in tie rod ends to knuckle arm in and tighten the nuts to 31-42 ft. lbs. (42-57Nm) and screw in cotter pins. Last but not least, replace the wheels, lower the vehicle, re-connect the negative battery cable, bleed the power steering system and test the front end alignment.
